MISSION

Our mission
is to foster true musicianship with a complete band program.

ABOUT THE DIVISION OF BANDS....
The Division of Bands consists of the Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Pep Band and the Marching Sound Machine. This division is dedicated to excellence in music and each plays a vital role in the entire success of the program.

Concert Band
is open to all students with interest and experience. It meets weekly during both semesters, flexibly responding to students' interests and abilities while rehearsing and performing a wide and diverse literature.

Symphonic Band
maintains an active performance schedule on campus and in the community. The Symphonic Band often represents the Department of Music at major professional conferences, commencement exercises, convocations and other events. Membership is open to all university students by audition and is offered fall and spring semesters.

Wind Symphony is the top graduate wind band. They engage in professional level study of wind literature important to contemporary performing practices.
The Wind Symphony's campus performances are supplemented by periodic tours, selected artist concert series, conventions, and conference appearances. All performers rotate in the assignment of parts, and all serve as principals in symphonic and concert bands.

Pep Band
is a 60-member basketball pep band and spirit group selected by audition. The band performs at men's and women's home games, CIAA/NCAA tournaments and selected activities.

Marching Sound Machine
is a marching band of approximately 250 students that performs at all home football games and traditionally travels to three to six out-of-town games during the football season. The Sound Machine is a central feature of the University with many performances outside of football with audiences of over 80,000. The ensemble is often featured front page of local and out of town newspapers and magazines and television programs viewed by millions.

The Marching, Symphonic and Concert Bands additionally serve as a practicum for music education majors. This hands-on approach to instrumental pedagogy is vital to the development of the prospective music educator.
